Rapid Cat Fines Analysis

Detect catastrophic marine engine damaging cat fines in minutes

Cat fines are a source of catastrophic abrasive damage to engine cylinders during combustion in large marine diesel engines.  While engine manufacturers recommend no more than 10-15 ppm cat fines in fuel, the ISO 8217 specification allows for up to 60 ppm.  This difference necessitates shipboard reduction using centrifuge techniques.  Marina delivers rapid determination of cat fines presence (silicon and aluminum), down to the levels recommended by engine manufacturers, enabling ship owners to:

  • Check for the presence during fuel purchase
  • Optimize removal using centrifuge techniques shipboard
  • Ensure fuel being injected in the engine will not cause abrasive damage
