June 7, 2004 – DAWNBREAKER® announced today that it has awarded X-Ray Optical Systems, Inc. of East Greenbush, NY with the prestigious Outstanding Commercial Achievement Award. Companies receiving this award have reported funding or sales in excess of $1 million within 18 months of completing the Commercialization Assistance Program (CAP) funded by the Department of Energy (DOE). This 10-month program involves commercialization and business planning activities culminating with an Opportunity Forum where investors and potential partners are brought together with the small firms to launch their business initiatives after DOE funding.

X-Ray Optical Systems, Inc. (XOS®) was founded in 1990 and is a leading global manufacturer of x-ray optics, components, and analyzers. The company’s extensive capabilities in the design, manufacture and characterization of x-ray optics and systems allow it to offer a broad range of analytical solutions to customers worldwide.

The company’s extensive expertise and innovations in the design, manufacture and characterization of monocapillary, polycapillary, and doubly curved crystals optics enable it to offer a broad range of focusing, collimating, and beam-bending lens options. XOS®’ product line of polychromatic and monochromatic x-ray beams provides and optimized integration of optics and low-power x-ray sources.

XOS® has been very successful in identifying market needs and transitioning their DOE-developed technology to meet those needs. This technology started out as a portable parallel beam x-ray diffraction system for the in-line process control in the steel industry. It has since transitioned to a process for measuring sulfur particles in fuel both at the benchtop and inline with market focus on refineries, pipelines, and some terminals.
XOS’s Outstanding Commercial Achievement Award will be personally delivered later this month.
